Mel et Kio have been collaborating in an unprecedented way since the early 2000s. Each with a different background, their affinities have since continued to offer original creations that manage to express intimacy on supports that can be monumental! Mel studied art in Strasbourg. Visual artist, he was very early interested in writing and large formats. His reflections led him to question the relationship of a work with the viewer but also with its environment. These concerns are still reflected today in his creative proposals where we perceive the energy and spontaneity of writing in Indian ink; but also a relationship to space which, from special in situ works to more standardized creations, interacts with the spectator and his environment
Kio, on the other hand, resides on the side of words. Literary training, in Khâgne then at university, she attaches great value to the poetic function and the musicality of language. A storyteller by nature, she now defines herself as a "wall author" and combines her words with the expressive and poetic drawing of Mel.
With two voices and four hands, Mel and Kio offer original solutions to dress the walls like a second skin..
Original wall creations
First of all, from a technical point of view, the murale creations of the duo Mel and Kio are quite special. Whether they relate to unique works imagined and produced for a specific place, or whether they are mass-produced to decorate your interior spaces, ltheir stickers are made of adhesive vinyl in their own Le Prédeau workshops. This mastery of the production tool, combined with the experimental dimension of the architectural projects that feed the other sectors with their interventions, allows them to constantly innovate and shake up uses. Among their distinctive signs, cutouts of great finesse which, beyond the technical prowess itself, offer great expressiveness; or new trompe-l'oeil effects such as the Shadow Frames series, which is very successful.
Aesthetically, their creations have no equal. Intimately linked to the personality of their two creators, their stickers send us back to poetry, childhood or even calligraphy. The intimate marriage between graphics and words gives them a real originality that touches each viewer and adds meaning to a purely decorative effect.
