Plateau influence asiatique avec carpe Koi Gangzai

Since the end of the 19th century and the period of Impressionism, Nympheas by Claude Monnet and some paintings by Vincent Van Gogh, we see many references to Asian culture in Western creations. . Whether it is the patterns, the treatment of colors or the choice of compositions and materials, these various influences married to our own culture, give birth to creations with subtle exoticism that are suitable for all types of interior.

Patterns inspired by Asian culture

The identification of Japanese-style motifs is an obvious way of seeing the Asian influence on contemporary creations. Whether it is the abstract patterns available in several colors on our Kagome collection; or even traditional figurative patterns, revisited and reinterpreted by Western designers.

This is the case with the lacquered metal tray from the Ganzaï brand, which features a koi carp decorated with a fan. This montage with surrealist and poetic accent transports us to an imaginary country that is neither Asia nor the West.

As for the reinterpretation of shapes and illustrations of Asian origin , we can also quote the creations of the French brand Ibride which truly re-creates a whole universe of shapes and designs that refer to the Asian tradition without however duplicating it identically.

In all these reappropriations, it is indeed a reciprocal enrichment which provokes mystery and poetry and invites to travel...

An aesthetic of purity that is part of the Zen tradition

Another influence of Asian culture on the international design scene is expressed through creations with refined aesthetics, very close to Zen philosophies.

In addition to graphic and minimalist shapes, there are literal or subtle references to natural elements: water, air, stone ... For example, the pebble hooks in porcelain from the German brand Maomi express all the harmony contained in nature through this simple and refined object.

Likewise, the Plan Vase by designer Sébastien Cordoleani for the editor Moustache seems to recreate a mini Zen landscape that will be easy to install in a space of your kitchen or living room to enjoy the serenity that comes with it.

These creations of Zen inspiration help to create a serene and soothing atmosphere; as well as the Zen philosophy from which they are inspired.

Materials and know-how from Asia

Among the obvious citations to Asian culture, there is obviously also the use of materials or techniques, traditionally associated with the Land of the Rising Sun. There is in particular the use of non-woven paper, in its often technical version in the West, which refers to the traditional Chinese lanterns....

For example, the la Cage lamp by designer Arik Levy for Forestier combines a contemporary metal structure with a Tyvek lampshade whose iconic shape refers to Chinese tradition. Through this mixture of materials and eras, a gateway emerges in time and space and gives to this light a strong and timeless presence.

For the Airflow mobile from the Danish brand Flested, the reference is made to the origami technique. In essence light and poetic, this mobile uses this ancestral folding technique which allows it to play with the air and the effects of light on its different facets obtained by folding to reinforce its presence.

The Asian influence on Western design is reflected in multiple ways. Whether expressed in forms, colors or materials, this always subtle and refined exoticism offers these creations additional richness that allows them to blend with all styles. They erase the boundaries of time and space, they mix styles which, suddenly, harmonize perfectly with all types of interior.
